POLOKWANE – A change of season brings with it a change in the way we manage our hair, in order to keep it strong and healthy. In light of this, BONUS spoke to hairdresser Tonny Mesca to fill us in on this seasons do’s and don’ts.

Mesca explained that in seasons such as autumn and winter, one’s hair texture doesn’t respond well to lotions and tends to stiffen or shrink, which in turn causes one’s hair to snap.

It is also in this season that one’s hair grows at a much slower pace, prompting one to adequately take care of one’s hair. In comparison to short hair, long hair requires more care and sufficient conditioning treatments meaning that it can only undergo a single relax treatment accompanied with conditioning treatments done with a 10 day periodical difference.

Short hair on the other hand, requires less effort in the time spent in washing, drying and styling.

Although this seems like a more stress free choice, it does have its own set of care requirements.

While dyeing and relaxing one’s hair is quite a normal occurrence, these are still two of the most sensitive adjustments to one’s hair which always require special tending to, irrespective of the season.

Those seeking to dye their hair should remember to take the entire hair dyeing procedure as well as the management thereof into full consideration.

The biggest mistake that individuals tend to make is to undergo a relax treatment after having recently dyed their hair.

“People have an option of using healthy dyes with less effects. Then are are tensive dyes with strong effects, and both these type of dyes react differently with hair textures,” he explained.

For daily use, apply a mixture of 5 ml hair food and 5 ml of hair moisturiser and proceed in styling hair as desired. Olive products come highly recommended as they are more effective in hair care during this season.

As washing and conditioning is also an essential part of good hair care, it would be commendable to wash one’s hair every seven to 10 days.
