Know how not to become a victim of scams with these tips
Specialist investigator, Mike Bolhuis, and local police are once again warning people to be on the lookout for scams aimed at stealing victims' hard-earned money.

POLOKWANE – Bolhuis told Review despite the warnings available to people, they unfortunately still fall victim to predators due to situations they find themselves in.
Provincial Spokesperson for the Hawks, Matimba Maluleke, told Review cases are still being reported where people fell victim to well-known scams.
“Recently two police officers were arrested because they were involved in illegal activities. This just goes to show crime is something that happens any place and at any time. We urge residents to be on their guard and make sure before they give out any information which can cause them to lose their hard-earned income,” he said.

Bolhuis and the police advise the following:
• Do not be motivated by greed, rather make informed decisions.
• Do not reveal your personal information to any unknown person, institution or organisation.
• Take care to verify all information available to you in order to ensure the legitimacy of any claim or request made. Especially with claims regarding ‘inheritance’ money, payment notifications from unknown particulars, assistance with money, investments, winnings and rewards among others.
• Do not engage in any form of contact with scammers. Once they have your personal information and contact information they will persistently pursue and harass you. Remember the old saying: If something is too good to be true, it usually is!
“We remind the public to remain vigilant against scammers,” Bolhuis said.
