According to police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the 90-year-old woman was asleep in her house when the suspect intruded, threatened her and raped her before fleeing the scene.
“The victim informed her daughter and the police were summoned. A manhunt operation ensued,” he said.
The suspect is still unknown at this stage and anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect is urged to contact Captain Moses Monyela at 071 355 0568; the crime stop number 08600 10111; the crime line SMS 32211 or the nearest police station.
Ngoepe concluded that police are making a call to communities to take care of the elderly.
“The elderly must at all times be looked after to avoid and prevent perpetrators taking advantage of their vulnerability,” he said.
