[UPDATE] Suspects involved in the kidnapping of a sleeping teacher, denied bail

A 28-year-old teacher was found in the bushes near Mokopane on Saturday, 24 November, after being kidnapped and gang raped.

LIMPOPO – Two suspects (aged 31 and 18-years-old) involved in the kidnapping of a female educator appeared before the Phalala Magistrates Court on Monday, 26 November.

The two suspects were arrested during an intelligence-driven joint operation in the Lephalale cluster on Sunday, 25 November and during the arrest, one of the suspects were found in possession of the ignition keys of the victim’s car and later, the victim’s car was found abandoned in bushes near Marken.

Their arrest emanated from the kidnapping and gang rape of a 28-year-old teacher from a high school near Marken. She was kidnapped while she was asleep in her home. They tied her, loaded her inside the boot of her car and drove away with her. She was later found dumped in bushes near Mokopane.

Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the suspects were charged with cases of common robbery, kidnapping, theft of motor vehicle and rape and were denied bail.

“Their cases were postponed to 3 December 2018 for further police investigations to take place and for a formal bail application,” he concluded.
