Traffic volumes expected to increase on Limpopo’s roads from today
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety say over 1000 traffic officers have been deployed on Limpopo's roads this festive season.
POLOKWANE – Traffic volumes are likely to start increasing from tomorrow, onwards, following the start of the festive season as well as the long weekend ahead.
Spokesperson for the Department, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala says as with all other years, an increase in the movement of people is expected and there will an influx of traffic to various holiday destinations and an increase of activities at places of entertainment, shopping centres and migrant workers returning to their homes. This also includes ports of entry.

“Due to excessive travelling and heightened activities during this period, road safety operations will also be intensified. In partnership with SAPS, National and Municipal Traffic Police, our officers will be all out to ensure that speedsters, drunken drivers and un-roadworthy vehicles are removed from the roads,” Moremi-Taueatsoala said.
As a result, 1 136 traffic officers; 32 road safety officers; 399 marked traffic vehicles; 29 road safety vehicles; five motor cycles; 10 moving violation recorder vehicles; five mobile vehicle testing stations and prolaser speed cameras will be deployed on Limpopo’s roads.

“Visible policing and speed enforcement will concentrate on crucial roads. From Maubane to Beitbridge on the N1, traffic police vehicles will be visible at least every 40km and 10 high speed vehicles fitted with a Moving Violation Recorder (MVR) will be deployed. All our weighbridges will be activated to focus on overload control and fitness of trucks and public transport vehicles. Public transport operations will be conducted in every district,” he said.
Moremi-Taueatsoala concluded by declaring Limpopo a zero-tolerance zone against law breakers and said any person caught speeding or breaking the rules of the road will be dealt with accordingly.
