BREAKING NEWS – Wave overcomes two Lim women in Mozambique

Two women from Groblersdal are among four persons being searched for after they were overcome by a wave while holidaying at Portuguese Island off the Mozambican coast.
They have not been confirmed dead and it was learnt that the search for them was still on. A statement released by Premier’s spokesperson Kenny Mathivha this morning (Thursday) informed that the group made up of eight of young people apparently left South Africa on 12 January to celebrate the birthday of one of them on the Mozambican coastline. While at Portuguese Island four of them were overpowered by a wave, went missing and are yet to be confirmed dead, he stated and reiterated that the other four were rescued with the assistance of the Mozambican authorities.
According to Mathivha the four missing persons are Mahlogonolo Mmatholo and Lesego Matsepe both from Groblersdale, Gregory Mfune and Tjolo David Kaise from Bloemfontein and Secunda respectively. The surviving four are Vincent Rammupudu, Lesedi Mmotong, Basetsana Mogafe and Lefentse Mampuru from Tafelkop and Groblersdal, he clarified.
He further indicated that Premier Stan Mathabatha has been in contact with President Cyril Ramaphosa, the Mozambican authorities and the families of the missing young people.
Mathabatha was quoted to have said: “We wish to thank the South African Embassy, the Mozambican authorities, and the Navy for their immediate response in rescuing the four and continuing to search for the other four.”
It was learnt that Mathabatha had deployed the Elias Motsoaledi Mayor, Julia Mathebe and her municipal manager to go to Mozambique to support to the families already there on behalf of the South African Government and the province.
