Lephalale doctor, Werner Emslie’s murderer sentenced to life imprisonment
29-year-old Petrus Standford Moyo was on Wenesday sentenced to an effective life imprisonment by the High Court in Lephalale
LIMPOPO – Moyo was convicted of the murder of Lepalale doctor, Dr Werner Emslie (55).
Moyo was part of a group of armed suspects who shot and killed Dr Emslie and shot and injured his wife; also a doctor on a farm outside Lephalale on 20 September 2017.

According an earlier report four unknown men, two armed with pistols, attacked and shot the deceased while he was sitting outside the house. The suspects then went inside the house and shot and injured the deceased’s wife before they fled The scene in the deceased’s vehicle, which was later found abandoned few kilometers from this farm.
Following intensive joint operation composed of various police units and other role players Moyo was arrested. He later escaped from the Police holding cells but he was re-arrested on the 18 October 2018 at Frankport in the Free State Province and was subsequently convicted.

Moyo was further sentenced to 15 years for attempted murder, another 30 for robbery with aggravating circumstances, one year for trespassing, 13 years for house breaking and theft, three years for malicious damage to property , three years for escaping from lawful custody and nine years for theft.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Province Major General Jan Scheepers, has hailed each and every police member who participated in this milestone achievement for the job well done.
