Soccer teams from four schools in the city applied their best skills on the pitch with hopes to convert chances into goals that would ensure that they win the trophies and medals at stake during the Polokwane Central Schools Football league finals played at Eagle’s Nest Christian School sport fields last Saturday.
The hosts’ u/19 boys’ soccer team put up an impressive performance and came close to winning the league cup after leading 3-0 against Capricorn High School with 11 minutes of the game remaining. A red card to Eagles’ winger, Kwetsimani Shibambu allowed the Cappies to bounce back in the game and managed to equalise before the third lady could sing. The Eagles subsequently lost 5-3 in the penalties.
According to Eagles u.19 soccer coach Abraham Dhlakama, this was by far the best performance by his team this season. He went on to reveal that the Man of the Match accolade was won by his player, Potlako Matsiu.
Eagle’s Nest u.15 team claimed a win against PEPPS Preparatory School and College after securing a 3-1 lead. Eagles coach Patrick Rafemoyo indicated that the team played well and reiterated that they went into the game with a positive attitude. He added that much credit should go to the team for their high spirit and self-motivation.
Eagles’ Paballo Leshaba was named the Man of the Match.
