Man(40) arrested after attempting to cross border into Zimbabwe with a suspected stolen CAT

He was arrested during "Valamadi" an intelligence driven operation, comprised of the Musina Crime Prevention Unit, the Cluster Task Team and the Border Policing Unit which was conducted in the Makhado cluster

LIMPOPO – In a statement released, Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said the suspect was apprehended after he attempted to acquire a clearance certificate without proper documentation.

“The arrest was made at the Beit-Bridge Port of Entry while the suspect was trying to cross from South Africa to Zimbabwe. He failed to account for the origin of the Caterpillar and it’s owner,” explained Ngoepe.

Preliminary Police investigations have revealed that the Caterpillar was reported stolen in the Apel Policing area outside Lebowakgomo.

The suspect will appear before the Musina Magistrates court soon, Ngoepe said.

During the same operation the members also recovered a Ford Ranger bakkie which was found abandoned in the bushes along the South African and Zimbabwean borderline outside Musina.

“The preliminary police investigations have revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen at Ga-Rankuwa location in the Gauteng province.There is no arrest in this matter, Ngoepe concluded.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has applauded the Police officers and other role players who participated during these operations for job well done.
