Water supply disruptions affect Mankweng, parts of Polokwane

Overnight reservoir closures have been introduced as Polokwane Municipality works with Lepelle Northern Water to restore water supply to Mankweng and parts of the city.

12:17 – Polokwane Municipality has released a further update on its water supply system, warning that several reservoirs remain at critically low levels.

According to the municipality, the 50ML Krugersburg Reservoir is currently at 20%, while the 30ML D Reservoir has dropped to 6% and the 30ML F Reservoir is at 13%.

Seshego Reservoir is at 45%, while Extension 34 (Ivydale) and Potgieter reservoirs are at 85% and 81.4%, respectively.

Water inflows are currently recorded at 71 litres per second from Olifantspoort and 254.6 litres per second from Ebenezer.

Municipal water treatment plants remain operational, with production levels of 6.8 ML/day at Seshego, 3.7 ML/day at Sand River North, 12.3 ML/day at Dalmada and 4.0 ML/day at Molepo.

The municipality said the low reservoir levels continue to place pressure on the distribution network and could result in reduced water pressure and intermittent water supply, particularly during periods of high demand.

Residents have again been urged to use water sparingly while the system recovers.

POLOKWANE – Residents in Mankweng and parts of Polokwane are experiencing water supply interruptions due to disruptions on Lepelle Northern Water’s (LNW) Ebenezer Water Supply System.

According to Polokwane Municipality, the disruptions have resulted in critically low water levels at the LNW-operated Rasfontein Reservoir, affecting water distribution to some areas.

The municipality said the Dalmada Water Treatment Plant is operating normally and remains fully functional. However, the interruptions on the Lepelle Northern Water supply system are affecting the municipality’s distribution network.

Municipal officials are working with Lepelle Northern Water’s technical teams to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible.

To allow storage levels to recover, the following reservoirs will be closed nightly from 22:00 to 04:00 until further notice:

  • Krugersburg Reservoir D
  • Krugersburg Reservoir F
  • 50 ML Reservoir

The municipality apologised for the inconvenience and urged residents to be patient while efforts continue to restore normal water supply.
