Norris Ngobeni, a 26-year-old man, who has been on the Police’s list of wanted suspects, was arrested by members of the Tzaneen Tracking Team last week and has already been linked to seven more cases allegedly committed in the area since last year.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that Ngobeni was arrested in Tzaneen Central Business District while travelling in a taxi. He added that Police received information from community members about his presence in the taxi which resulted in a sting operation to apprehend him.
He was initially wanted for an alleged recent murder in Letsitele. Preliminary investigations revealed that he is reportedly also linked to an armed robbery, burglary and three cases of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm in November 2018 and a robbery and burglary committed last month in the area, according to Ngoepe.
Ngoepe added that Ngobeni already appeared in the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court last week on a charge of murder and that the case was postponed until tomorrow (Friday) to allow for further investigation.
He is expected to appear in various other courts on charges stemming from the other crimes he is suspected of.
Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba commended the tracking team for appropriately acting on information received. He thanked community members for their continuous support in providing the Police with valuable information.
