Duo arrested after offering officers thousands of Rands to release stolen vehicles

Two suspects arrested for attempting to bribe police officers attached to Vehicle Investigation Unit, will appear before the Musina Magistrate's Court soon on charges of bribery.

LIMPOPO – In a determined effort to apply the no-nonsense approach against any form of criminality or corruption, the police arrested the duo, aged 34 and 43, on Sunday 7 July.

According to statement issued by Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, it is alleged the suspects approached the police officers at the Vehicle Investigation Unit and offered them a bribe of thousands of rands, in return for the release of two vehicles that were seized during a sting operation that was conducted a week ago.

The said vehicles, were confiscated on 1 July after the police intercepted a possible trio crime syndicate following a tip-off to police by the local community regarding a group of armed men en-route from Gauteng to Makhado. During the arrest, two suspected stolen motor vehicles, eight signal jammers, alarm system control monitors and mechanical equipment were recovered by the police.
