Polokwane receptionist arrested for embezzlement

The woman was employed as a receptionist at a health facility in Polokwane

POLOKWANE – A 50-year-old woman appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 12 July following her arrest for fraud by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit earlier the day.

In a statement, Spokesperson for Hawks Captin Matimba Maluleke said the woman was employed as a receptionist at a health facility in the city and embezzled over R300 000 from the facility’s fund during 2013 and 2014.
It is alleged that the accused would not register all the money paid in by the clients, instead she would take some for herself. The audit report also indicated that there was a deficiency in sales conducted, Maluleke added.

The woman was granted R2 000 bail and her case was postponed to 12 September.
