The Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (Ledet) has in the current financial year set aside an amount of R19 million to re-accredit the four Limpopo Economic Development Agency (Leda) training centres in Seshego, Lwamondo, NkowaNkowa and Giyani to work in partnership with Technical and Vocational Education and Training colleges to train young people in accredited courses aligned to the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) programme.
This was announced by Ledet MEC, Thabo Mokone when tabling his department’s budget vote speech in the Provincial Legislature in Lebowakgomo last Tuesday. He indicated that the final implementation of the Musina-Makhado SEZ was gaining momentum, that the recruitment process for the appointment of the project’s Chief Executive Officer has been completed and announcements would be made during a sitting in the Legislature during the course of next month.
Mokone went on to reveal that the key challenge in the implementation of the SEZ was long-term water availability. He added that officials from Ledet, Office of the Premier and the Department of Water and Sanitation were working tirelessly to confirm water availability and sources. He further highlighted that the application for the Fetakgomo-Tubatse SEZ was ready for submission to the Department of Trade and Industry by the end of August. While the process is unfolding, Ledet has taken a conscious decision to support Fetakgomo-Tubatse SEZ as a nodal growth point, Mokone explained and concluded by saying that a support package for the programme would be finalised by the end of August.
