Limpopo chief’s palace goes up in flames following discovery of decomposed body

Angry community members set alight the six-roomed palace belonging to Chief Samuel Nwedamutsu (74) of Tshixwadza village in the Ha-Rammbuda Tribal Authority last Tuesday evening.

LIMPOPO – Thovhele Rammbuda said they appeal to the communities for peace and calm.

“We held a meeting some weeks ago and thought the meeting would help to resolve some of the alleged ritual murder cases happening. We appeal to the communities to cool down and inform the police if they have information, rather than taking the law into their own hands.”

The meeting was held between the communities in Tshixwadza and surrounding villages, at the Thovhele Ratshivumo II Rammbuda chief ‘s kraal.

In the latest case, villagers in the mountainous village of Luheni-Mapuloni near Tshixwadza under Ha-Rammbuda are upset after the discovery of the decomposed body of Zwidofhela Isaac Ramarumo (48) on 28 July who was reported missing on 12 June.

The community leader in Luheni-Mapuloni village, Munyadziwa Thagamega said the meeting only served to ignite anger among villagers.

According to Thagamega, some information relating to the murders was withheld in the meeting.

Thagamega said the communities are also concerned as more than 10 people have been reported missing, some of whom had not been found and no arrests had been made despite the names of suspects being given to the police in Mutale.

A family spokesperson who doesn’t want to be identified said the group of people came to the chief’s kraal at 19:30 and doused the building with petrol before setting it alight.

He said the six inhabitants of the house were lucky to escape.

Nothing could be salvaged from the blaze. Limpopo Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed that cases of arson and public violence have been opened. Police investigation continue.
