Malamulele poet recognised at CCEA awards

A Capital Excellence Award (CCEA) was recently bestowed upon well-known Malamulele poet, Masingita Shivambu (19).

LIMPOPO – She won the award for the best poet at the event which was held at Soshanguve Community Hall.

According to her, she is happy about winning the award which shows that people recognise and love her work as a poet.

“I dedicate this award to all the young girls in the rural areas, showing them that anything is possible, as long as you work hard,” said Shivambu. Her mother, Tinyiko, is her role model as she always inspires her to work harder so that her work can be recognised all over the world.

The mayor of Collins Chabane Local Municipality, Moses Maluleke, applauded her for winning the award and urged other young people to take up poetry.

“We are happy about her win and hope that this will also encourage other people to take up poetry as well as grow our arts and culture within our communities,” added Maluleke.

Masingita was born in Matiyani village, Malamulele and is currently a radio presenter at Giyani Community Radio. She started doing poetry at an earlier age and did her first gig as a poet at the age of 14 at a church in Mhinga village.

She has been invited to perform at weddings, parties, funerals and a cultural music festival.

She will never forget the day she was booked to perform at Collins Chabane Cultural Heritage festival, where she shared a stage with LazyZamar, Benny Mayengani, Dr Joe Shirimani and Sunglan Chavalala.
