Man sentenced to life after raping girl (7)

The Mokerong Regional Court has sentenced the 28-year-old Thapelo Nkiba Phillip Marakalla to life imprisonment for the rape of a seven-year-old girl.

MOKOPANE – The incident happened on 12 November 2017 at a village in the Gilead Policing area outside Mokopane.

“The victim’s guardian was at home when a witness informed her that Marakalla had locked himself in his house with the victim. She rushed to the said house and on arrival found the girl inside with the accused. She asked him what was happening and he alleged that the girl was only playing games on his cellphone.

The case was assigned to Detective Warrant Officer Matsobane Lekalakala from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in the Mahwelereng cluster and within a short space of time Marakalla was arrested. The accused was denied bail until he was sentenced to a heavy jail term last week.
