‘Saving is the way forward’

Women with Vision came together to avoid the stress caused by debt, and formed a stokvel called the Ba Ka Gae social club.

LIMPOPO – The club, from Mmotong outside Polokwane, consists of 15 women who believe saving money is a way to build a better future.

The club’s Vice-Chairperson, Mphata Choshi, told BONUS that the idea behind the club was to save money for their families.

“We are relatives who believe in helping each other and this sees our family being cemented,” said Choshi.

She said the club was formed in 2015 and it has changed their lives as family women.

“We meet once a month and our club has two accounts, a funeral and a year-end grocery account.

“We make use of gift vouchers to buy groceries in December, however one needs to buy and show the club one big product which is not food,” she said.

Choshi added that they support each other through good and bad.

“We believe that by supporting each other, our family bonds become much stronger.”

Choshi said at times, they organise trips to spend time together.

“This is where we get to know the challenges we face and we then find solutions to overcome such situations. We do so because we want to see our clan grow and we hope to set a good example for our children,” she said.

She said the support they receive from their partners, fathers and mothers-in-law is amazing.
