4 arrested for armed robbery outside Giyani

The police in Malamulele on Wednesday, 18 September apprehended four men after they robbed a 31-year-old man at Mafanele village outside Giyani.

LIMPOPO – In a statement, Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the victim was driving a bakery vehicle from a local local spaza shop when the armed men forced him to stop.

They pointed a gun at him and when he tried to drive off, they shot at the vehicle and used another vehicle to block him from behind. They took control of the victim’s vehicle and drove to nearby bushes where they assaulted him and robbed him of undisclosed amount of cash, cellphones, an ID and bank cards.

The police were notified and the group of men were apprehended a short distance from the scene. During the arrest five cellphones, two guns with 13 rounds of ammunition, a sedan and cash were recovered.

The men, aged between 23 and 30, will appear in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on charges of armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, Ngoepe concluded.
