Two suspects were expected to appear in the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court late last week in connection with an alleged business robbery in Malamulele last Wednesday.
Maphure Manamela of the Provincial Police Communications Centre indicated that the duo were arrested shortly after an alleged armed robbery at a local business. The names of the suspects are still being awaited.
She said Police received a tip-off about unknown suspects being in possession of firearms driving around Dzwerani village. Police traced the vehicle but when they approached the driver sped off resulting in the Police to give chase.
Manamela remarked that the Police air wing was also summoned to assist until the suspects were arrested. During the arrest Police recovered two firearms, seven rounds of live ammunition, a magazine as well as airtime vouchers and cash believed to have been robbed at a business in Malamulele. The getaway vehicle, a Toyota Hilux bakkie was also confiscated.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered vehicle was hijacked in the Waterval Policing area earlier.
The suspects, 31 and 41 years old respectively, are facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property as well as carjacking and business robbery.
