LIGMA makes nominations known

Ligma Project Manager, Augustine Nethononda said they are satisfied with the level of participation for this year's event

POLOKWANE – Gospel artist, Lufuno Phalwandwa is the most nominated artist for this year’s Limpopo Gospel Music Awards (LIGMA). Phalwandwa scored nominations in seven categories at the LIGMA nomination party held at Fusion Boutique Hotel on Saturday night. These include best Gospel newcomer of the year, best Gospel collaboration song, best Gospel male artist, best Gospel album of the year, best Gospel worship song and best Gospel artist of the year. His nominations were based on his debut album, Midnight Hour Worship, which was recorded live at the Ha-Mutsha Community Hall in December 2018.

Ligma Project Manager, Augustine Nethononda said they are satisfied with the level of participation for this year’s event as compared to the previous edition which was the inaugural edition, as there is more representation of the diversity in Limpopo. “We are impressed with the level of participation this year as it covers all corners of our province. Even more comforting is the participation by the youth as they are the future of the local Gospel industry. We urge our young generation to participate in future, in particular women so that we can have a full representation,” said Nethononda.

This year’s Ligma’s will include two additional categories, best Gospel collaboration/duo as well as best Limpopo Gospel hot single. “Our plan is to introduce at least two categories every year as the brand continues to grow. There is also a compelling case for us to recognise those who work behind the scenes such as the engineers and producers as they are key in any music production setup,” he said.

Asked how he felt for receiving so many nominations, Phalandwa was quick to direct all the praises to the Lord and said the nominations were made possible by God. “I worked hard on this album. I worked with the best team and my manager was on our case, to ensure that quality was never compromised,” said Phalandwa.
