And the popper says: It’s a boy!
Thinus and Shani du Toit second baby, Simon's gender was revealed at their gender reveal party in July. Bonus spoke to Thinus about his experience
POLOKWANE – And it’s a boy! “We were fixed and prepared for a girl as we already had a boy. Shani’s pregnancy was completely different from the first baby which let us to believe that this time-around it will definitely be a girl. Yes, we know that every pregnancy is different, but this one was completely different to our first,” Thinus said.
Thinus told BONUS that before they planned the gender reveal party, he and his wife watched a lot of videos and searched for ideas on Pinterest.
“My wife came up with most of the ideas but I was involved every step of the way. It is and was a beautiful experience to go through,” he added.
They hosted their party at his sister-in-law’s house to save money on a party venue. “There were small party poppers of which the bottom was taken out and the streamers on the inside were replaced with blue streamers and blue glitter. All our guests expected a girl and it was another boy. Nonetheless, we were excited for the news,” Thinus said.
Thinus says it was completely out of the box. “I was told that guys’ brains work in boxes like a box for sports, politics and so forth. I got the full enjoyment from the new ‘norm’ in my life, as I am usually conservative and prefer to keep to myself,” he said.
He advised other men that in life they only have one shot to seize a moment and make a happy, fond memory with the family. “The best moments thus far have happened when I discarded the secular idea of a man and embraced the Godly idea of being a husband for my wife and a father for my children, striving to serve them and putting them second only to Jesus,” he said.
He enjoyed the idea of tampering with explosives (poppers). “It had awakened the little boy in me. I was a bit let down by the eventual explosion (or lack thereof) from the poppers as I wanted a bigger bang and more confetti. The rest of the reveal was a ripper,” he said.
He concluded that it is better that someone organises the party for the couple. “It is probably more fun that way when you let someone organise it then you do not know or expect anything. Try to keep the gender a secret from the husband, if possible. The party was more of a curiosity since we have never been to one and nobody we knew has done it. From there on, we winged it,” he concluded.
