Allegations of nepotism, tribalism to be investigated at Dept of Health
This after the Department of Health recently employed 774 health workers.
LIMPOPO – Allegations of nepotism and tribalism have surfaced following the recent recruitment of 774 employees at the Department of Heath in the province.
The Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba has received written complaints about these appointments, where it alleged nepotism and tribalism played a major role in the recruitment of the candidates. She has since written to the Public Service Commissioner, George Mashamba requesting him to investigate these allegations.
The department earlier said that the recently concluded recruitment process is one of the biggest the department has undergone and included 303 ward attendants, 105 operational managers, 85 administrative clerks, 16 nursing managers and 13 senior clinical managers.

Ramathuba firmly believes that candidates must be appointed on the basis of qualifications and experience and not their proximity to anyone. Due to the seriousness of these allegations she approached the Public Service Commissioner (PSC) as an independent body to investigate and get to the bottom of the matter, says Health Spokesperson, Neil Shikwambana.
The MEC calls on those involved to allow the PSC the space to investigate and make their own findings. After the report has been finalised, the MEC will give feedback and determine what actions will be taken.
