Boledi Drop-In Centre, Toyota Knights and Filter Man share Christmas joy

Children who have nowhere to go this festive season will be given a safe place to be looked after and be kept busy during the day thanks to the Boledi Drop-In Centre.

POLOKWANE – The centre will run a holiday programme which will be sponsored by Toyota Knights and Filter Man.

Children around Seshego zone 3 will be able to interact with other children and receive breakfast, lunch and a snack before they go home.

Coordinator of the programme as well as a SAVF social worker, Terry Mkhabela said they chose the centre because they know that children go there after school and they wanted to help them brighten up their festive season.

She further thanked Toyota Knights and Filter Man for looking out for the children through their sponsorship.

Apart from the holiday programme, the drop-in centre takes in 60 children after school and give them lunch before they go home.

Francina Ngoasheng, founder of Boledi Drop-In Centre explained that she saw the need to help children in her community because of the environment they grow up in. The centre is also in dire need of public assistance to be able to continue giving children a place to go to after school.

“We will appreciate any kind of service or donations that people can offer us. The number of children coming to the centre keeps increasing and we struggle to feed all of them. The ladies who assist me here are volunteers because we cannot afford to pay them,” she said.

She extended gratitude to the sponsors who assisted the centre.

She added that the centre does not receive a stipend because she was told the centre does not comply with the law, because it’s in her yard and that she will have to move it elsewhere, in order to qualify for a grant.

She now uses her pension to cover expenses to keep the home open.
