Cocktails to ring in the New Year

POLOKWANE – New Year’s celebrations are the perfect time to share a drink with friends and family.
The traditional New Year’s drink is, of course, champagne or sparkling wine. Why not try something different this year and prepare some tasty New Year’s cocktails.
Here are a few suggestions from www.food.com:
The original hurricane
Ingredients:
60ml dark rum
30ml passion fruit
30ml fresh-squeezed lemon juice
Method:
Combine the ingredients in a pitcher. Stir to mix the ingredients. Shake and strain into a glass filled with ice.

New York cocktail
Ingredients:
60ml Canadian whiskey.
10ml lime juice.
15 ml sugar syrup.
1 teaspoon grenadine syrup.
Method:
Shake everything together in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Fill the chilled glass three-quarters and fill with ice. Garnish with an orange twist.

Stinger
Ingredients:
1 shot brandy of your choice.
15ml creme de menthe.
Method:
Shake the ingredients in a shaker filled with ice, strain the mixture into a cocktail glass and serve.

Blue skies
Ingredients:
30ml cointreau.
30ml blue curacao.
Lemonade or sprite.
Method:
Pour the cointreau into a cocktail glass, followed by blue curacao. Fill it up the rest of the way with lemonade or sprite and garnish with a slice of lemon.

Mouth song
Ingredients:
75ml Vodka.
30ml Pomegranate juice.
90ml aloe vera juice.
15ml ginger liqueur.
Squeeze of lime.
Method:
Fill a highball glass with ice. Add vodka, pomegranate and ginger liqueur. Pour aloe vera juice to top and stir well. Squeeze in lime and garnish with a lemongrass stalk and mint.

Frizzante mojito
Ingredients:
6 fresh mint leaves.
10ml freshly squeezed lime juice.
30ml syrup.
45ml rum.
2 dashes of bitters.
60 ml of champagne or sparkling wine, chilled.
Method:
In a shaker, muddle together mint, lime juice and syrup to release mint oils. Add rum and bitters, shake over ice. Strain into cocktail glass and top with champagne or sparkling wine.

Brandy Alexander
Ingredients:
45ml brandy.
60ml cream.
30ml coffee liqueur.
1 cup of ice.
Method:
Place all the ingredients in the jar of a blender. Blend on slow speed until frothy and well combined. Pour into glass and serve.
