Lisbeth Mthombeni - "Revising the previous year's work is the best way to get them back into routine, in order to make sure that they remember what they learnt and be able to go forward with the new year's work."
POLOKWANE – When the festive season and long December holiday is over, it is time to get back to school and back into routine. This may be an easy task for some, while others struggle to do so. Review spoke to a few teachers to find out how they get learners to fall back into routine after the holidays.
Karabo Mokgotho – “It is difficult to keep the concentration span of the learners so it is always better to start them off with something fun which they will remember for the rest of the year. It is always best to come up with original ideas.”
Lehumo Semenya – “For my learners I ensure to go through all the work with them, so that they can have an indication of what they will be busy with throughout the year and to ensure that they know how much effort they need to put in to achieve the results they are looking for.”
Effi Muthe- “I always try to check where my learners are currently standing in their academics and start them off from that position. This makes sure that there are no learners who are left behind.”
Johanna Madavha – “I am a history teacher and find a fun way to represent what I am teaching in my class for the first few weeks. I will use funny items to represent what I will be teaching and to ensure that the lesson lasts longer.”
Wendy Moloto – “The one thing that works for me is just being myself. I have realised that when I show my true self to the learners, it also encourages them to become their true selves and it strengthens the bond between us.”
Phillip Matji -“I believe in starting them off with work on the first day. It is always easier to get them back into routine by early setting the pace for the year.”
Vuselelo Gumende -“I can only get my learners back into routine by ensuring that I am prepared for the academic year. I always do that by going through the last exam papers they wrote and identify struggle areas.”
