Restaurant owner with a medical science degree

Sitting at home and searching for a job was not the solution for Sheryn Moyahabo Dikgale to make a profit or create a brighter future for herself.

POLOKWANE – The 24-year-old from Ga-Dikgale village completed and graduated with a medical science honours degree at the University of Limpopo (UL) in 2018.

Sheryn started applying for jobs with no luck and after six months of searching, she thought of a business idea that she could pursue.

She then decided to open a mobile kitchen, The Eatery PLK, where she sells kotas (bunny chows which she calls African burgers).

Owner and co-founder of The Eatery PLK, Sheryn Moyahabo Dikgale, serves her customers.

She currently resides in Fauna Park and attended Laerskool Chris Hofmeyr and Capricorn High School.

“Although I’m not a professional chef, I’m a fairly good cook. I love cooking and learning new recipes in the kitchen, and from my chef associates. I believe I was born to work with people hence this business choice,” she said.

Sheryn added that she developed a love for food, serving customers and interacting with people.

“I worked at the mobile kitchen from July last year until January this year.

“I then moved to a shop but we still deliver to people. With the name, we wanted something simple and original so that everyone can relate and feel at home.

“I call my customers Eaterians and it makes them feel special and appreciated,” she said.

She caters for almost everyone. “I make platters for corporate companies in town as well as deliver African burgers for high schools around Polokwane. I currently deliver to Northern Academy and Piet Joubert,” she said.

Sheryn recently hosted a Women’s Day event, Women in Business, to empower other women.

“A lot of women from around Polokwane came out in their numbers to support the event. Ideas were shared, friends were made and other young unemployed women are busy with their business proposals as we speak,” Sheryn added.
