[TAKE NOTE] R81 open after demolition of bridge is stopped

Demolition activity will take place once weather has cleared

POLOKWANE -The R81 road is open, this after the demolition of the bridge at Ga-Sekgopo was stopped due to heavy rainfall in the area.

The Department of Transport says the road is open for traffic use for now. Updates will be provided.

R81 temporarily closed due to bridge demolition

POLOKWANE – The R81 road from Polokwane and Tzaneen will be closed for the demolition of  the main bridge. This is according to a notification sent out by Lonerock Construction (PTY) LTD.

The road will be closed at 08:00 and all traffic will be diverted. The closure is expected to last for about eight hours.

Traffic from Polokwane will diverted at the Munnik Avenue intersection via Soekmekaar to Mooketsi.

The road from Tzaneen will also be closed from 08:00 at the weighbridge and traffic will be diverted on the aforesaid route, the notice reads.

They added that only residents from Ga-Sekgopo will be allowed to enter from the Tzaneen side and that traffic within the village will be accommodated over the bridge using stop and go’s. An alternative route will also be in place for pedestrians crossing the bridge.
