[VIDEO] SANDF comments on the Rooikat da’fence’ incident outside Polokwane

A video of a SA Army Rooikat Light Armoured vehicle crash during a recent training run at the Roodewal Bombing Range has left many South Africans doubting the capabilities of the South African Defence Force (SANDF) and it's members.

POLOKWANE –Β  In the video which has gone viral you can see the vehicle ramp over a man-made hill and then swerve directly towards spectators before the vehicle crashes into a fence. Many of the spectators had to run for safety.

The SANDF has confirmed in a statement that the incident did indeed occur during a practice run for the Armed Forces Day 2020 Capability Demonstration at the Roodewal Bombing Range. Roodewal is a controlled area that is utilised by SANDF personnel and equipment.

“We have noted with concern that a video clip is doing the rounds on social media depicting the SA Army Rooikat Light Armoured vehicle swerving uncontrolled towards spectators and can confirm that no injuries or damage was reported,” Siphiwe Dlamini, head of communications at the SANDF, said in a statement on Tuesday, 18 February.

He further noted that it was regrettable that individuals “that hide behind pseudonyms” intentionally display the SANDF negatively by posting and or commenting adversely against the defence force with ill intentions by casting doubts about its equipment and personnel to the pubic.

South Africans took to Twitter to voice their concerns and others used comical relief to see the lighter side of things.
