Witness Lesley Mpofu (28) and Kealeboga Makwaeba (33) are expected back in the Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court on 11 May after they were arrested at Taaibosch village in Maleboho last Wednesday for allegedly trying to sell elephant tusks.
They first appeared in court the next day (last Thursday) when the case was postponed for further investigation.
Limpopo Hawks Spokesperson Matimba Maluleke indicated that they had received information about two suspects in possession of elephant tusks in the area. The suspects who are believed to be from two different neighbouring countries were caught red-handed while trying to sell two elephant tusks to locals, according to Maluleke.
The tusks are estimated to be worth R50 000. The suspects are facing charges of dealing in elephant tusks.
Maluleke indicated that the origin of the tusks was still being investigated.
