Isaac Mashila celebrates nine years of making waves
The radio personality believes he has achieved more than he has ever imagined.
POLOKWANE – Isaac ‘Ceeloo’ Mashila celebrates nine glorious years in the radio industry this year. With three radio awards, the radio personality believes he has achieved more than he has ever imagined.
He told Review that when he thinks of what he has achieved, it blows his mind. “When I started my radio journey, I doubted myself a lot. It feels good to be able to have confidence in myself as a radio personality. I am proud to have been able to build a good name for myself and to be a source of inspiration,” he said.
He adds that his journey in the industry has been difficult at times but the awards displayed in his home are a testament for his perseverance and triumph over adversity.
“It all started when I was seven years old. I used to make audio tapes for my family and classmates. I obviously did not know that what I was actually doing was putting together my very own radio show. I would play songs and talk between the tracks which in radio terms would be called a link,” he said.
Isaac explained that no one in his family works in the media industry, so it is quite random how his passion for radio started from a very young age. “I have just always been creative and I was fascinated that I could hear people’s voices coming out of a speaker,” he said. Nine years of hard work has turned Isaac, who grew up in the rural areas of Kgokong Ga Mamabolo, into a breakfast show producer at Thobela FM and says he’s not finished as yet.
“Success is no longer about the awards or about fame. The most important thing right now is to work on the kind of legacy I want to leave behind. When people look at me, I do not want them to see a mere presenter. I also want them to realise that anything is possible if you put your mind to it,” he added.
He adds that his grandmother told him how, as a seven-year-old at the time of strikes, he used to climb into an old radio cabinet in the dining room and then, dramatically talk as if he is on air.
Aside from Thobela FM, Isaac has worked at various radio stations in Polokwane and has done exceptionally well in those too.
