‘Deceased’ at SASSA – no grant for mentally challenged woman

After countless affidavits and letters the family of mentally-challenged Takalani Margaret Rasikhwela say they are tired of the incompetence at South African Social Security Agency (Sassa)

LIMPOPO – The mentally-challenged Takalani Margaret Rasikhwela of Tshiozwi was recorded as deceased on the database of the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).

Even though she is still alive, her family has been struggling to effect her disability grant.

Matodzi Rasikhwela, her sister told CV that the family is tired of the incompetence at the agency.

“I took her to the Sassa offices in Louis Trichardt on several occasions and submitted countless affidavits and letters. Each time, the officials claim they are working on the problem, but nothing happens.”

She said they can’t believe that it has taken years to rectify the mistake, when all the evidence is there.

“When we visited Makhado Home Affairs in 2019, we were told Takalani is still alive according to the Home Affairs database.”

The confirmation from Department of Home Affairs to prove Rasikwela is still alive.

It was during an application in 2018 that the family was told that Takalani is deceased.

CV contacted the Sassa Provincial Spokesperson, Norman Kutama confirmed that according to their systems, Takalani is deceased.

Kutama said the family must take confirmation documents to the Department of Home Affairs.

When CV enquired with the Department of Home Affairs in Louis Trichardt, the record stated that she is still alive.
