Team Stress looks out for their bro’s

'Team Stress' consists of motivated and dedicated men who love to help the community

POLOKWNE – “We are free whenever we’re around each other and we tell each other almost anything.”

For Westenburg’s ‘Team Stress’, should any member struggle emotionally, there will always be someone to comfort them with whatever issue they might have.

The team, founded by Wayne Southon, are a crew based on their love for cars and became a brotherhood after bonding with each other.

The group consists of motivated and dedicated men who love to help the community and they work with cars, putting a ‘spin’ on ordinary cars their clients bring to them.

“We came up with the name because when we’re together, we do not stress about anything at all,” Wayne said.

Duncan Southon also explained that as much as the love of cars brought them together, ‘Team Stress’ is all about welcoming anyone to their crew with open arms.

“We don’t limit anyone from joining our crew, we believe that everyone is equal and unique in their own way and that’s the reason why we welcome anyone to the group, because everyone comes in with a different mind set, skills and ideas.

“As a team we get a lot of things done, and we help and assist each other where we get stuck or struggle, be it work, family or anything related to one of us, we try as much as possible to meet each other half way,” Duncan said.

On issues of men’s mental health, Duncan elaborated by stating that they are aware that most men are not keen on opening up to anyone about their feelings.

“As a team, we know and understand that most men don’t feel comfortable to open up, they like bottling things inside, especially guys that isolate themselves.

“It’s normally not a ‘guy thing’ to open up to the next person as much as women do, but in a team or when surrounded by other men who can relate, we believe that life gets better, because whatever our teammate is going through, most of us in the group will most probably be going through the same thing,” Duncan added.

Wayne adds that being in a crew that does positive things and makes a difference in the community also builds each other as good brothers, fathers and friends that are role models for the younger boys in the community.

“Our friendship and brotherhood keep us emotionally healthy and that’s very therapeutic to us. We also believe that strong friendships can protect against many psychological problems,” he concluded.
