Zinzi Mdhluli - "I didn't choose to do this job but when I was called for it, I accepted because I knew what a big responsibility it is and I knew I could do it. I didn't doubt it at all and I was not wrong."
POLOKWANE – Learners at Capricorn High School have taken up the honour of raising flags at the schools. In the mornings and after school, there is a group of learners who dedicate their time to raising the school and the South African flag. This is an important task that requires dedication and Review spoke to the team to find out why they joined the team.
Here is what they had to say:
Katlego Talane – “I became a flag holder because the job comes with a lot of respect from both the teachers and fellow learners. It gives you opportunities that others don’t get, such as holding the flags.”
Tsheamo Maleka – “I like doing this because it assists the teachers. Doing it makes me feel important because not everyone gets the opportunity to touch the school and SA flag.”
Thereso Ramushu – “I volunteered because it opens doors for me such as to be able to become part of the matric board, which is an honour and a privilege. You leave the school after Gr 12 with a legacy to your name.”
Shatadi Nkadimeng – “It is a blessing for me to be part of the flag holders because it’s not anybody who can do the job. I like the idea of holding a flag when other people can’t do it.”
Kgaogelo Malebati – “I became a flag holder because I felt it was a great honour. The flag is the school’s pride hence I volunteered because I know what an important task it is.”
