Covid-19 lockdown: essential services to continue, says the Polokwane Municipality
The municipality's Spokesperson, Thipa Selala says there are measures in place to ensure that service delivery continues to be rendered during the lockdown period.
POLOKWANE – Certain services at the Polokwane Municipality will not be available to the public following the announcement of a 21-day lockdown by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The municipality’s Spokesperson, Thipa Selala says staff not related to essential services were released on Tuesday, 24 March.
Selala says there are measures in place to ensure that service delivery continues to be rendered during the lockdown period.
“Services that will continue during this period include electricity, water, sanitation, refuse removal, environmental health, traffic management, security, fire and disaster management, control centres and call centres.”

The municipality has also put in place a rapid response team which includes senior managers to deal with any emergency that may arise during this period. Selala emphasised that during the lockdown, all municipal offices and facilities, including the rates halls will be closed.
“The municipality is encouraging consumers to make use of Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT’s) and EasyPay at supermarkets to make payments.

“The municipality is also reiterating the call made by government for the community to continue to demonstrate their determination, sense of purpose, sense of community and sense of responsibility.”
He further stated that staying at home, avoiding public places and cancelling all social activities is the preferred best defense against the virus.
