Fire leaves family with only the clothes on their backs

The fire has resulting in Julia Ndou and her family having to stay with relatives

LIMPOPO – An unemployed single mother of three children and two grandchildren was left with nothing when her six-bedroomed house caught fire recently, resulting in her and her family to stay with relatives. Julia Nnditsheni Ndou (45) of Ha-Magilasi village in the Vuwani policing area said life has become a nightmare after a fire destroyed the roof of the house. According to Ndou, she was alone at home when she discovered that a fire had started in her bedroom.”I shouted to my neighbours, and many people from the community came to help, but then the taps were without water,” a despondent Ndou told CV.

Some of the community members went back to their homes to fetch water and brought bucketsful, she added. She said the fire services from Vhembe in Vuwani responded promptly, but little was left by the time they arrived. She said the family literally has only the clothes on their backs left.

The Manager of the Vhembe Youth Empowerment Programme, Susan Ravuku, which is based in Ha-Mangilasi in Vuwani, said after she heard about the incident, they interacted with various structures for donations of clothes and household utensils while the community volunteered to repair the roof. “We are still hoping that the Good Samaritans who had promised to donate to help the distraught family, will assist. We are also worried that the learners now don’t have school uniforms left and any donation will be appreciated,” said Ravuku.

The police’s Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said an arson case had been opened with the Vuwani police. If you can assist, phone Ndou at 060 955 6607.
