POLOKWANE – Sakia ‘Sakie’ Makhafola from Seshego Zone 1, who has worked as a caddie at Polokwane Golf Club since 1986, has returned from representing Limpopo at the GolfRSA Champion of Champions National Final, delivered by The Courier Guy, with a top-10 finish.

The tournament took place from September 20 to 23 at the Nick Price-designed Vaal de Gráce Golf Estate in the Free State. Makhafola returned home on September 23.

Teeing off on the national stage

Playing in the caddie division, he finished ninth nationally and said he was beyond happy with his achievement.

“I appreciate the opportunity, the experience was amazing, and I also learned a lot from other golfers during the GolfRSA Champ of Champs National,” Makhafola said.

He added that he was proud to make the top 10 out of so many players, while other players from other provinces did not.

Words for the young champion

Makhafola also congratulated his fellow Limpopo representative, 14-year-old Nathan Faver, who travelled with him to the tournament. Faver claimed the men’s C-division title with 73 points after rounds of 40 and 33.

“I would also love to congratulate first-timer and national champion Nathan Faver who travelled with me to the Free State. I also thank Nathan’s dad for driving us there, and the Review team for paying for my golf cart for the whole three days,” Makhafola said.

“I would also love to thank and appreciate other individuals who played a role in assisting me in any way possible, which led to the success of the tournament.”

Pride back home at the club

The Polokwane Golf Club team has congratulated both Makhafola and Faver for their outstanding achievements and for proudly representing Limpopo on the national stage.
