Member of Thulamela Municipal Council arrested for intimidation

The 38-year-old man sent a video to two complainants in which he intimidates them.

POLOKWANE – A 38-year-old Thulamela Municipal Council member has been arrested by Members of the South African Police Service Provincial Investigations Unit and the Tracking Team.

This comes after cases of intimidation was opened at the Thohoyandou police station last night 5 June.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said in a statement that the man is one of the MMC’s who were on Sunday, 31 May reshuffled during a council sitting.

“He sent an intimidatory video clip to the two complainants. The police received information on the suspect’s whereabouts, after he was reported to be somewhere in Polokwane. The suspect was then apprehended at his house in Polokwane this morning,” Mojapelo said.

Acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Jan Petrus Scheepers has commended the members for their swift response.

“The arrest of the suspect will send a strong message to everyone that the police in the province will promptly act against anyone who threatens to kill any person for whatever reason,” concluded Scheepers.

The man is set to appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 8 June.
