Damage to pipe: Several areas without water

The Polokwane Municipality says temporary relief measures will be provided to the affected areas.

POLOKWANE – A contractor accidentally damaged a 350 mm asbestos pipe at the corner of Nelson Mandela Drive and Vermikuliet Street.

The pipeline supplies to extensions 40, 44, 71, 75 and 76 as well as Madiba Park and Legae la Batho.

“The municipality is attending to the problem, however, it will take some time to get it fixed due to the size of the pipe and the extent of the damage. In the meantime, temporary relief measures will be provided to the affected areas through water tankers,” Muncipal Spokesperson, Thipa Selala, said in a statement.

Selala added that normal water supply shall be restored once the pipe is fixed and he urged all stakeholders to report water related challenges such as water shortages, leakages and burst pipes promptly to the water call centre at (015) 290 2376 / 2629.
