Soapie actor among 5 arrested for selling illicit cigarettes in Polokwane

The suspects were earlier arrested at the local taxi rank.

POLOKWANE – Members of the Hawks in Limpopo received a tip-off about suspects who were selling illicit cigarettes at the Polokwane taxi rank earlier today.

According to a statement released by Hawks Provincial Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke, a 44-year-old prominent soapie actor and four other suspects, between the age of 38 and 42, have been arrested for dealing in illicit cigarettes on Wednesday.

“An early morning operation was conducted where the five suspects were caught red-handed with the contraband,” Maluleke said.

He added that 45 cartons of Remington Gold cigarettes to the value of R12 000 as well as R9 681 in cash were confiscated.

Maluleke said the four men and one woman is set to make their first appearance in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for the contravention of the Customs and Excise Act 91 of 1964 and dealing in illicit cigarettes.
