Vintage Gurus take stand against GBV
The group crossed-dressed to show that they are opposed to violence against women and children.
POLOKWANE – The Vintage Gurus hosted an event against Gender Based Violence (GBV) on Saturday, 4 July at Library Gardens. The Gurus are known for embracing vintage wear and decided to participate in the ‘STOP GBV’ movement by cross-dressing and walking down the streets of Polokwane to promote peace.
Daniel Motsepe, the founder of the Vintage Gurus told Review that the group wanted to support the movement because they wanted to voice their dissatisfaction at the recent increase in incidents of gender-based violence across the country.

“We want to put an end to GBV because the lives of many of our loved ones and friends are lost because of irresponsible men. We went out today cross-dressed, to show that we don’t support the abuse and killing of women and children. We also wanted to show women and children that we will support them until the end, no matter what,” he said.
“Though women are overwhelmingly the targets of violence, men are also subjected to this kind of behaviour, especially if they are perceived to be acting outside the prescribed social norms for males. We also want to encourage our fellow brothers to support the ‘Stop GBV’ movement and help brothers who may need help. We urge everyone to stop abusing women and children,” he said.
He asked “Are we saying that being violent is something we inherit? Isn’t it something that we develop? With our conduct we can put fear in somebody or we can put love in somebody. Stop Gender Based Violence,” he concluded.
