[TAKE NOTE] N1 North temporarily closed

This is due to an earlier incident in which two people were killed.

POLOKWANE – The N1 is temporarily closed at the N1 North off-ramp says the Department of Transport an Community Safety’s media liaison officer, Mike Maringa.

Maringa says this is a result of a fatal incident involving a hatchback and a truck.

“The car and truck collided head-on. The male driver and a female passenger from the hatchback were killed instantly and the truck driver escaped with minor injuries. Reckless and negligent driving has been cited as the possible cause of the accident,” Maringa added.

e explained that the N1 North bound is completely closed while the South bound lane is moving slowly because of heavy traffic.

“Meanwhile, a female pedestrian was killed while crossing a road at Giyani Section D. She was certified dead on the scene. Transport and Community Safety MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has urged road users to be cautious especially on weekends where fatal crashes are on the rise,” Maringa concluded.
