[WATCH] B Star Blossom puts a fresh spin on art

B Star Blossom, whose real name is Malesela Masipa (21) is an artist who dabbles in various arts such as tattoos, piercings and customised clothing pieces.

POLOKWANE – He started at a young age, drawing cartoons like Dragon Ball Z that fascinated him.

Masipa started tattooing his friends in 2015 with a home-made tattoo machine. The first tattoo he got paid for only made him R15 richer, but it opened his eyes to the possibilities of what could happen if he improved his craft. He immediately started saving and could afford a professional tattoo machine two years later.

“At first, my parents were not supportive of my craft and said tattoos are satanic. They are more understanding now that I am making something out of it,” Masipa explained.

He started doing art on clothing in 2018 after he saw a guy painting Tom and Jerry on sneakers on Instagram. He decided to give it a try and has mastered the art after many hours of practice.

All of his artwork is free hand and he has become so confidant in his own abilities that he uses pen, his pencils are long-forgotten. Masipa is happy to see his business grow and took the step to rent a studio in town where he currently operates from.

His plans for the future are to create a company that combines all his artistic interests and helps other young artists like himself, who are trying to make a name for themselves. Check his work Instagram @bstarblossom
