Pico ready to take the reigns of Africa’s biggest motocycle club

Newly elected President of the Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club, Antonio Pico Santana Martins says he is ready to take the club to the next level and bring back the true Sapa Yopa.

POLOKWANE – Martins was elected at the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dishophong, Seshego Zone 1, on Saturday, 20 February. He will take over from the club’s first-ever female president, Thulisile Tilly the Great Buthelezi, who took the helm in 2020. The club was established in 2008 and officially launched in 2009 with only 10 bikers from Polokwane, Louis Trichardt, Tzaneen and Mokopane.

During his acceptance speech, Martins said he was honoured to become the club’s president and to lead the biggest motocycle club in Africa. “As a biker, there is nothing more important than brotherhood. Sapa Yopa is a very big brand and there is much to be done and to be rectified. We are living our dream of cultural diversity with a membership that includes Africans, Indians, Coloureds and Whites,” he said.

Martins added that the club needs more effort in pushing its brand and that they need to be more visible in order to help the needy. “We need to be out there, assisting with food parcels and sanitary towels,” he said.

As the biggest motorcycle club in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, Martins says they want to make sure that their members are honoured for their generous contributions to the team. “We are a social and charity oriented group of people who love to ride motorcycles and enjoy the scenic views of our beautiful continent. The club is built on brotherhood and respect not only among themselves but for other road users as well,” he concluded.
