[VIDEO] Multi-vehicle collision on N1 at Ysterberg claims two lives
A case of reckless and negligent driving is under investigation, says the Department of Transport.
LIMPOPO – Two people have died and three others injured following a serious multi-vehicle collision on the N1 between Polokwane and Mokopane on Sunday, 28 February.
The incident involved two sedans and two trucks and happened at round 15:00 at Ysterberg pass.
Mike Maringa, Liaison officer for the Department of Transport says two passengers from a sedan died on the scene.
“Three other occupants, two drivers and one passenger sustained moderate injuries and were treated on the scene.”

The possible cause of the incident will be determined by police investigation. A case of reckless and negligent driving is under investigation.
The collision led to a three hour road closure on the N1 between Nyl Plaza and Polokwane. This resulted in traffic backup on the R101 and N1.
LIMPOPO – The N1 is temporarily closed between Polokwane and the Nyl Plaza following a multi-vehicle collision at Ysterberg.
The Media Liaison Officer for the Department of Transport, Mike Maringa has warned of a traffic backup in both directions and advised motorists travelling between Polokwane and Gauteng to use the alternative R101 road.
He added that it is reported that three people died in the collision.
Meanwhile, reports suggest heavy queues at Kranskop and Nyl toll plazas. Motorists are urged to be patient and to adhere to the rules of the road at all times.
