Loverboy (19) knows how to get a crowd
Koketso Mankgabe, known as Loverboy, is a fresh-faced 19-year-old entertainer from Serala View.
Mankgabe has his eyes set on making a name for himself in the entertainment industry by fulfilling the role as master of ceremonies at various events. He is also a musician.
The rugby player is at a crossroad because he has to choose between two loves – playing rugby or the entertainment industry. Loverboy explained that his stage name was one of a number of names he considered.
“Somehow people liked it more and the name stuck. It has gotten to a point where people do not even care to know my name because they are happy just calling me Loverboy,” he said.
He says the name is a brand that he is working hard on to establish and make reputable.
The hard work that he is putting into his career is showing as he has entered the Polokwane City Awards in the category of Hustler of the Year.
He explained that the category looks at people who have identified various streams of income and putting in the hard work to make sure that they succeed in all the income they identified.

Five years from now, he see’s himself owning a record label that will be focused on developing local talent, adding that the talent in the province is amazing, there just aren’t opportunities afforded to the young people.
“I want up-and-coming artists in Polokwane to grow. We have a lot of talented young people, they are just underrated,” he said.
