Community, security forum chase down cable thieves in Polokwane
Several men who were working at a construction site nearby assisted the members of Bendor & Sterpark Security Forum (BSSF) to search for and apprehend one of the suspects.
POLOKWANE – Members of Bendor & Sterpark Security Forum (BSSF), with the help of construction workers of a nearby site in the Bendor area managed to apprehend two suspects who allegedly stole electrical cables at a new residential development in Leigh Street this morning (Thursday).
According to BSSF Chairperson, Johan Retters the bicycle patrol team spotted four suspects in Leigh Street as well as a bakkie parked nearby which was already loaded with several meters of electric cables around 04:15.
“The suspects scattered when they were approached and the driver of the bakkie sped off. Members called for backup while giving chase. The suspects ran into nearby bushes to avoid being arrested,” Retters said.
On the scene, construction workers joined the forum members to search the bush located between Jaguar Polokwane and Italtile, resulting in a suspect being surrounded and successfully apprehended. The first suspect was arrested minutes prior to the second.

Retters thanked the BSSF members and construction workers for their dedication in apprehending the suspects.
He also expressed his concern that he had to call 10 111 three times without anyone answering, and when he called the Polokwane Police Station, he was referred back to 10 111.
Polokwane police spokesperson, Lesiba Ramoshaba indicated that he was aware of the incident but was unable to give more details.
