[VIDEO] CDM Mayor: ‘Enterprise Foods Polokwane is a top local employer’

Capricorn District Municipality Mayor, John Mpe visited Enterprise Foods this afteroon, and heard that 95% of their employees reside within the district.

Capricorn District Mayor John Mpe visited Enterprise Foods earlier today, during which Enterprise Human Resource (HR) Manager, Norman Nembanzheni, announced that they were responsible for the employment of just over 550 employees in the district at an annual cost of R168 million.

Nembanzheni says 95% of their employees reside within the district. The other 5% are employees that had to be imported from elsewhere to fill a gap left by a lack of skills.

“The imported employees are those with skills that were not available in this district. They are mainly from Gauteng, and only attribute to a small percentage. From our overall numbers 98% of our employees are African, and 91% are male.”

He explains that the factory is over 100 years old and that it used to be a predominantly male industry. They are gradually employing more and more women as vacancies become available.

Enterprise Foods is responsible for R17 million of the local municipality’s revenue which is paid through services, rates and taxes.

Mpe says the amount of money pumped into the local economy by Enterprise Foods would be much larger if indirect employment were considered. “If we take into consideration the people who buy and sell enterprise goods, you will realise that they are actually attributing more than just R17 million into the economy.”

Managing Director, Alistair Hayward says the company has been trying its best to engage with the community to find out how they can be the best of assistance, and are thrilled to have an impact on the economic growth of the community.
