David to chair Impala 157
David Cawood was recently voted in as chairperson of Impala 157.
In 2016 during one of Round Table’s biggest events in Polokwane, the A la Carte, Richard Hillary invited David Cawood to become part of Round Table Impala 157.
“The Round Table is about community service and I grew up in a family where my grandparents and father were involved in community work. Round Table is a fellowship among professional young men who raise money to help the community. I like being part of this for a variety of reasons, one being meeting new people who are like-minded. I am lucky to be in a position to help.”
After joining in 2017, David was recently voted in as chairperson of Impala 157. He is a business owner in the manufacturing industry and says without the support of his wife, Kirsty, he would not be able to do the job.
“My position as chairman involves administrative duties, arranging meetings twice a month and making sure every project runs smoothly. Round Table can be very time consuming and there are costs involved. We do have a policy of family first, then business and then Round Table.”
Well-known projects of Round Table 157 include the Winter Knights blanket drive and the R5 project, where they pay shoppers R5 to buy them a tin of food for the less fortunate.
“With all the restrictions from last year it was really difficult to run our usual projects. I told my team I do not believe our traditional projects would work and we should think outside of the box. We are in the process of acquiring a Section 18A certificate to give to donors for tax purposes. La Wiida and Pathways are two of our biggest beneficiaries and we need to raise money for them.”
David says they are keen to get new members and business men between the ages of 18 and 40 years are welcome. They do, however, look for especially men between 25 and 30 years. The men need to be like-minded, ambitious and have goals.
“The best part for me about the Round Table is the concert at Pathways. It is also important to have the support of our wives as they do a lot of behind the scenes work. We would not be able to do everything without them.”
