Leda helps 20 families out with Get Well Charity Organisation
Limpopo Economic Development Agency (Leda) partnered with VKB Milling and donated 20 bags of mealie-meal to Get Well Charity Organisation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in Lebowakgomo last week.
The NGO identified 20 families who were in desperate need of assistance and they were each provided with a bag of mealie-meal.
According to Leda’s Corporate Special Investment Specialist, Kholofelo Motlharo, the gesture was prompted by numerous requests from different charity organisations and community members in the area for food parcels and other donations.
Motlharo said there was an upsurge in the number of calls from charity organisations seeking donors.
“It is extremely humbling and gratifying to be able to give something back to the community under these difficult circumstances. An unintended consequence of the prolonged lockdown is that income and resources have declined greatly in local communities. It is our duty to contribute to the fight against poverty and to address inequalities,” Motlharo said.
Founder and Chairperson of the Organisation, Anne Kgomo said the lockdown period affected most families around Lebowakgomo, making it difficult for them to put food on the table.
“This campaign for food parcel donation was formed to help those who are unable to care for themselves or their loved ones during these tough times brought on by the pandemic. It is impossible for the unemployed people and those who are relying on informal jobs to get through this phase. We are targeting the most vulnerable households with unemployed parents, child-headed families and the elderly who are supporting their grandchildren,” Kgomo said.
